In celebration of its 1st anniversary, The UP GIMPONG- a duly recognized provincial organization of UP students who come from the province of Kalinga -would like to invite all interested participants for the following activities.

The Next Big Step: A SEMINAR ON THE CITY HOOD OF TABUK
and LEADERSHIP TRAINING

The organization will hold a whole day seminar that focuses on the city hood of Tabuk. The topics to be discussed will revolve around the political, economic and social implications of the city hood of Tabuk to its residents. UP Gimpong will be inviting knowledgeable speakers to give talks on the said topics. The seminar will be a venue for the youth to learn and be abreast with the recent developments in our very own Tabuk.

FILM VIEWING SCHOOL TOUR
October 22-26
VENUE: VARIOUS SCHOOLS
The organization will feature the film “An Inconvenient Truth (tentative)” in the major secondary schools in the province of Kalinga. This activity will be conducted for four days wherein the organization will visit two schools in a day. The organization aims to increase the students’ awareness on the pressing issue of global warming, as well as to provide venue for them to voice out their concerns.
The organization expects an audience of 300-500 students from each school:

Saint William’s Academy

2ND “BRAINWARS” INTER-HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ BEE
VENUE: SWA GYMNASIUM
Date: October 30, 2007
This year will mark the 2nd edition of the successful “Brainwars” inter-high school quiz bee. Just like last year, two teams composed of three students each will be invited to represent their respective school in the competitive “Brainwars” quiz bee. All secondary schools in the province of Kalinga will be invited to send their best students for the said competition, wherein only one team per category will emerge as the champion.
The quiz bee will be an avenue for the high school students to further their academic growth through a healthy academic competition.

BrainWars Contest Details:

1. The quiz bee is open to all bonafide high school students in Kalinga who are selected by their respective schools. Each school can send at most 3 teams per category.

2. The quiz bee has two categories, namely:
i. Category A: 1st to 2nd year students
ii. Category B: 3rd to 4th year students

The competing schools have the discretion on the composition of their respective teams as long as each year level for that category is represented on the team. For instance, team A maybe composed of 2 sophomores and 1 freshman or 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore. Teams who will violate this rule shall be slapped with an automatic deduction worth ¼ of their total points in the elimination rounds.

3. The quiz bee will be held at the SWA Gym on October 30, 2007. Registration of participants starts at 8 am, and the contest proper will begin at 9am. Teams who arrive after the first question in the easy round has been asked will still be allowed to compete. However, they will not be given the chance to answer the questions that they have missed, and they will be penalized with a deduction worth ¼ of their total points in the elimination rounds.

4. Registration fee for the teams that will confirm their participation on or before October 26 is only P100.00 per team. However, the teams who will register beyond October 26 will be charged P150.00 per team.

6. The contest has the following stages:
 Easy Round:
o 15 multiple choice questions @ 5 points per question
o Questions will be randomly selected from the fields of Science, Math, Trivia or Facts about Kalinga, and General knowledge
o 10 seconds per question (except for Math Problems)
o 30 seconds per question for Math Problems
 Average Round:
o 12 multiple choice questions @ 10 points per question
o Questions will be randomly selected from the fields of Science, Math, Trivia or Facts about Kalinga, and General knowledge
o 10 seconds per question (except for Math Problems)
o 30 seconds per question for Math Problems
 Difficult Round:
o 5 Multiple choice questions @ 15 points per question
o 2 “Double” jeopardy questions @ + 30 per question*
o 2 “Triple” jeopardy questions @ + 45 per question**
o Questions will be randomly selected from the fields of Science, Math, Trivia or Facts about Kalinga, and General knowledge
o 15 seconds per item for multiple choice questions (except for Math Problems)
o 60 seconds per question for Math Problems

There will be 2 "*Double" and 2 "**triple" jeopardy questions in which the participants may choose to answer or just pass. If a team chooses to answer the double or triple whammy questions and they are able to give the correct answer, their points earned for that question will be doubled or tripled

respectively. However, should they give the wrong answer, their scores will be deducted by the same amount. Teams who opt to “pass” will not be penalized. Nonetheless, each team is only allowed to “pass” twice.

 Clincher round (if necessary):
o Sudden death questions will be asked until the winner(s) will be determined.
o 10 seconds per question (except for Math Problems)
o 30 seconds per question for Math Problems

7. All teams will be provided with card boards in which they will write their answers within the time period allotted for the question. Once the time given elapses, all Teams are required to raise their boards. Teams who fail to raise their boards after the buzzer/timer stopped will be penalized; any points earned for that question will not be merited.

8. The points of the teams earned during the easy and average round are cumulative. Only the top 5 teams after the average round will advance to the difficult round. In the event that several teams are tied for the
5th spot, a sudden death clincher round will follow to break the tie. In the end, only 5 teams will advance to the final round.

9. In the event that any member of the team or its coach disagrees to the correct answer given by the Organization for a certain question, he or she should immediately call the attention of the board of judges. If no protest has been made, the answer given by the organization will be considered final and irrevocable.

10. Invalidated questions will be replaced with a new one.

11. Cash prizes and certificates for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placers will be awarded. A trophy will be given to the over-all champion.[/b]
